As you are aware, the Federal Government has issued directives in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. Our Archbishop Anthony Fisher has released a pastoral statement and directives for all parishes in our Archdiocese of Sydney (available here: https://www.sydneycatholic.org/coronavirus-updates/
We need to be responsible in not making it worse than it already is, at the same time taking extra precautions in protecting ourselves and caring for others.
Closure of churches
Clarification has been received from government that, in New South Wales at least, all churches must be closed, even to private prayer.
All non-sacramental and non-essential gatherings will be cancelled or postponed until further notice.
WEEKEND AND WEEKDAY MASSES
There will be NO MASS celebrated publicly until further notice.
Parishioners are invited to participate in Sunday Mass via our online livestream on the ‘john the Baptist parish Bonnyrigg Heights
You are dispensed from Sunday Obligation, and you can keep holy Sunday by setting aside some time for prayer at home, reading the Scriptures of the day, watching Mass on television or online, and asking God for the graces you would normally receive in Holy Communion.
An Act of Spiritual Communion by St Alphonsus Liguori
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
PASTORAL CARE AND OUTREACH
Pastoral care of the sick, frail elderly and homebound will continue with extra precautions in
accordance with current public health advice.
All Baptisms are postponed until further notice. Any parent of an unbaptised baby/child who may be sick or in danger of death, please call 0423420639.
RECONCILIATION AND ANOINTING OF THE SICK
Our normal Reconciliation schedule is postponed. Anyone who urgently needs the Sacrament or in urgent health emergency please call Fr Dominic 0423420639 or Fr Richard 0451910634
Funerals will be celebrated with only “very small groups” (i.e. immediate family) in attendance at the church.
Please take extra precautions in protecting yourselves and in caring for others. It is a challenged time for all of us, but we can still use this as an opportunity to contemplate on the meaning of life, our relationship with God and with one another, in order to strengthen our spiritual life.
Thank you to Tess Benjamin who has set up live stream for us. Here is the John the Baptist Youtube Channel address. Feel free to share this with our community. Invite anyone to subscribe. I will also post this to the Facebook page.
Mass will be live streamed this Saturday at 5.30 and Sunday at 10am.
With prayers and best wishes at this difficult time,
Fr Dominic and Fr Richard
